Riverside, Calif. – September 2, 2026 – The Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) celebrates Governor Gavin Newsom’s signing of AB 2307, authored by Assemblymember Kate Sanchez. The new law authorizes WRCOG, in coordination with Caltrans and its member agencies, to establish a regional pilot program coordinating traffic signals between state highways and local roadways.
“AB 2307 demonstrates what can be accomplished when local leaders unite around a shared regional priority,” said WRCOG Chair and City of Corona Mayor Jacque Casillas. “This partnership will help our communities address congestion, improve mobility and enhance the quality of life for residents throughout Western Riverside County.”
The pilot program will evaluate improvements in congestion, travel-time reliability, operational efficiency and vehicle emissions, while creating a model that may inform similar efforts statewide.
“This is a great step forward for our region,” said WRCOG Interim Executive Director Chris Gray. “By better coordinating signals across jurisdictional boundaries, we can maximize existing infrastructure and deliver more reliable travel for our communities.”
